Health Benefits
17. Allergic Activity
a. In the examination of the anti allergic constituents of oolong tea stem of the study of "Antiallergic constituents from oolong tea stem" by Ohmori Y, Ito M, Kishi M, Mizutani H, Katada T, Konishi H.[17], researchers found that the inhibitory activity of GCG (epicatechin gallate)was greater than that of EGCG(epigallocatechin gallate), which is well known to be an antiallergic constituent in tea and suggested that GCG may be a novel antiallergic constituent among tea catechins, and also the most potent.
b. In the evaluation of the antiallergic effects of green tea, oolong tea, and black tea extracts by hot water of the study of "[Effect of tea extracts, catechin and caffeine against type-I allergic reaction].[Article in Japanese]" by Shiozaki T, Sugiyama K, Nakazato K, Takeo T.[17b], researchers found that tea could provide a significant protection against the type-I allergic reaction. These findings also suggest that tea catechins and caffeine play an important role in having an inhibitory effect on the type-I allergic reaction.
